Inaugural Ceartas Cup
Last week, the Clyde Community Foundation hosted the inaugural Ceartas Cup at Broadwood, aimed at people with mental health issues or physical disabilities.
Teams from across North Lanarkshire and East Dumbartonshire were invited to take part in the 7-a-side tournament which was supported by NHS Lanarkshire and NHSL, Health Improvement, Cumbernauld Community Mental Health Team, Addiction Service and NL Leisure.
Tom Elliott, Community Development Manager said: “We are thrilled with the outcome of the first Ceartas Cup. It was held on the main pitch at Broadwood which made it that wee bit more special for all of the teams.
“The tournament format meant that every team played in either a cup or a plate final at the end and that was something that, for many of the guys, was their first ever experience of playing in a final. Overall, it was a great experience for everyone involved and it’s an event we hope to repeat in the summer.”
Congratulations go to Clyde United who won the first Ceartas Cup, beating Airdrie in the final.
Ceartas Advocacy were the plate final winners.
Sharon Gusman, NHSL Health Improvement Practitioner added:-
“I was delighted to represent the partnership between Clyde Community Foundation, NHSL and NL Leisure and present Clyde United with their first tournament cup. It marks another milestone for the team; they have come a long way in their journey to improve their mental health and physical wellbeing and it was great to see the men motivated and working together as a team.”
