Festive Friends Christmas Lunch
The Clyde FC Community Foundation in partnership with Clyde FC is helping some of the club’s older supporters to become ‘festive friends’ and enjoy a free day out at the football on Saturday 23rd December, at the match against Berwick Rangers.
10 people over the age of 65 will receive a Christmas to remember thanks to the SPFL Trust who are funding the ‘Festive Friends’ programme at football clubs across Scotland. The ten will join five members of the Sporting Memories group who have already been invited to attend as part of the initiative.
In another powerful demonstration of the positive impact football can make in local communities, over 500 socially isolated older people will be invited to their local SPFL stadiums to enjoy some free hospitality, receive a gift and meet new friends including staff from the clubs.
Tom Elliott, Clyde FC Community Foundation Development Manager said: “Festive Friends was a huge hit last year and is a very simple but hugely effective project which will allow us to make a real difference to some of our elderly supporters or relatives.
“There is an immeasurable social benefit in meeting other people and making new friends within the community.”
Clyde chairman Norrie Innes added: “This initiative is another great example of the positive force of football and we’re delighted to be involved.”
Not only will the Festive Friends attendees receive support with transport to the stadium if needed, once they arrive they will enjoy:
- Three-course Christmas meal
- Pre-match chat with the first team manager
- Reserved VIP seating in the best seats of the Main Stand
- Half-time refreshments including tea, coffee, pies and sandwiches
- Access to a cash bar after the game, whilst catching up on the full-time results
- A complimentary copy of The Clyde View, our award-winning match programme
