Clyde 2-1 Dumbarton

The Bully Wee came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over Dumbarton in the Betfred Cup at Broadwood this afternoon, with Darren Miller and Max Wright registering their first goals for the club.

With David Goodwillie and Jordan Stewart missing out through suspension, and Kevin Nicoll unavailable, Jim Chapman was forced to make three changes to his side, bringing in Kyle Bradley and Max Wright to the starting XI for the first time, along with David Gormley.

The first half was a very cagey affair, with chances limited for both sides.

Dumbarton came close when Alistair Roy broke free but his low effort was well saved by Currie. The visitors then broke the deadlock after 33 minutes, when Craig Barr managed to get his head on a cross and, after a scramble near the goal line, the referee and assistant deemed that the ball had crossed the line.

Clyde failed to create any real chance before the break and went into half-time trailing.

After a tight start to the second half, Clyde managed to equalise just before the hour mark. Miller’s dangerous corner was parried back out to him and the midfielder then managed to lob the Dumbarton keeper from a tight angle, for an excellent finish.

It wasn’t too long before Clyde went in front. The chance came from another Miller corner which found Wright, his header was blocked but he managed to squeeze his second attempt into the net.

The Sons then started to put pressure on the Clyde defence as the Championship side looked to even up the score. David Wilson and Christian Nade but both had their efforts saved by Blair Currie, before a brave header by Jack Breslin at the back post prevented a near-certain goal. The defender took a sore collision with the frame of the goal in doing so and had to leave the field, thankfully without any suspected serious injury.

With a reshuffled defence, The Bully Wee managed to see out the rest of the match to record a fine victory, also keeping qualification hopes alives with one match remaining.
