Goodwillie Signs Clyde Contract

David Goodwillie has pledged his immediate future to Clyde by signing a new contract with the club.

The former Dundee United, Blackburn Rovers, Aberdeen and Plymouth Argyle striker has agreed a two-year deal with The Bully Wee.

David, 28, joined Clyde in March on amateur terms and helped to secure the club’s League 2 status, featuring in six matches and scoring four goals.

Clyde manager Jim Chapman said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have David on board and there’s no doubting the quality and experience that he will bring to the squad. I’m looking forward to working with him and his standing in the game can only help us going forward.

“The enthusiasm he has shown to me and the club in general has been infectious and he will have a lot to offer our other players, especially the younger ones.

“It’s a fantastic start for us and I want to give credit to the chairman and the board for making the deal possible. There are a lot of changes to be made, but this is something that we can really build on.”

Speaking to the official website, David said: “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract to extend my stay with Clyde. It was a decision that I made with my family, after being given the opportunity to be part of the club in the closing stages of last season.

“I’m very grateful to Clyde for giving me the chance to play senior football again and I’m looking forward to having a full pre-season and working hard to help bring success back to the club.”

Clyde chairman Norrie Innes added: “Everyone at the club is delighted with the recruitment of David and we look forward to him making a key contribution to the season ahead. Since arriving at the club, David has conducted himself superbly both on and off the pitch.

“To recruit genuine talent is often difficult and challenging. The manager has expressed his desire to build a team that will give the supporters a different style and dynamic of football. David offers the club all of the quality that can nourish this style and, with the players already under contract and those identified for recruitment, there should be a positive synergy within the team.”
