Mixed Fortunes for Under-20s
The Bully Wee’s under-20 side have restarted their Development League West campaign following a winter break, with two matches in the past week that produced different outcomes.
First up on Monday 13th was Queen’s Park away at Lesser Hampden.
The Spiders started the game on the front foot, although Clyde probably should have had an penalty kick when Robbie Davidson was brought down in the box. However, Queen’s Park took the lead on 25 minutes with a quick break after a turnover of possession in midfield.
Within seconds of the second half starting, the home team doubled the advantage when a simple long ball beat everyone in defence and the Queen’s Park forward controlled the ball and fired low into the far left corner of the goal.
Clyde then started to get back in the game, without really testing the goalkeeper, but after 70 minutes it became 3-0. The Bully Wee did get a goal back when Aran McDonald and Ronan Sweeney combined to set up Craig Coleman for the finish.
Thanks to a penalty kick, the final score ended 4-1 to Queen’s Park.

Yesterday, The Bully Wee youngsters hosted Airdrie at Broadwood and bounced back with a fine victory.
After an energetic start to the match, Ronan Sweeney intercepted a pass, took on two players and drew a foul. The midfielder impressively dusted himself down and put the resulting free-kick high into the right hand side of the goal. Sweeney soon came close again, as did Aaron Millar.
A second goal eventually arrived on 15 minutes, after a fine move down the right hand side between Matthew Edward and Jamie McPhee which earned a corner. The delivery resulted in a scramble in the box, with Edward eventually smashing the ball home.
The second half saw Airdrie go on the front foot and try to get back in the game and The Diamonds scored to make it 2-1 with a well-taken chance.
However, five minutes after that Clyde scored the goal of the game. A fine piece of counter-attacking saw Davidson, Millar and Lynn combine to set up Sweeney, who finished well from the edge of the box.
The game ended on a slightly sour note, when Alex Lynn was red carded.

Speaking to the official website today, head coach Richard Fox said: “The boys went into the Queen’s Park game after two good showings in friendlies, but I was really disappointed with our performance, we were poor.
“However, yesterday was probably our best performance of the season. Every player played well, from Mark (McMillan) in goals to Aaron (Millar) up top and I was delighted with it.”
Next up for the team is an away match at Ayr United, with a date and venue to be confirmed.
