Setback for McGovern

Clyde midfielder JP McGovern has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

The 35-year-old was scheduled to return next month after a routine clean-up operation, but unfortunately he has now been advised that he requires a longer period on the sidelines.

Speaking to the official website, Barry Ferguson said: “During JP’s operation, as his knee was opened up the surgeon has found some issues that will delay his comeback. The operation was successful, but it’s now looking like November or December before he can get back into competitive action.

“I’m gutted for him and for the team, he was a big player for us last season. He’s a bit down about it at the moment but he’s experienced enough to get through it.

“We need to ensure now that he goes through a proper rehab and that he’s fit and ready for the first team later in the year.”
