Greenock Morton 1-0 Clyde

For the second time in four days, Clyde lost by a single-goal margin in the Betfred Cup this evening as hosts Morton took a big step towards qualification to the knockout stage.

Barry Ferguson made one change to the team following Saturday’s match against Kilmarnock, with David Marsh coming in for Dylan Easton who dropped onto the bench.

The Bully Wee forged an early chance to take the lead when Matt Flynn created some space for Sean Higgins, but the forward couldn’t get a clean shot away.

Following that, The Ton were on top for the majority of the first half but couldn’t break the deadlock. Gary Oliver hit the bar with a header, Ross Forbes put a free-kick just wide and Michael Tidser also missed the target from close range.

Shortly before the break, Caolan McAleer came very close to scoring but his shot hit the inside of the post and bounced back into the arms of John Gibson.

Early in the second half, a Clyde corner almost produced a goal but Martin McNiff couldn’t get enough of his head onto the ball at the back post.

The home side kept pushing for the opening goal and Gibson was forced into a sharp, low save to prevent McAleer.

With 77 minutes on the clock, a Morton corner found its way to the back post and Thomas O’Ware was able to force the ball over the line to make it 1-0.

Clyde’s best chance to equalise came when the ball broke to substitute Easton (pictured) at the edge of the box, but the midfielder could only drag a shot wide of the target.

In tonight’s other match in Group H, Berwick Rangers and Albion Rovers finished 0-0, with Rovers taking a bonus point on penalties.
