Barry Outlines Demanding Schedule
Clyde manager Barry Ferguson has detailed his plans for the coming days, with pre-season training activity ahead of the 2016-17 season set to begin tomorrow.
The opening training session will take place tomorrow night, after just over five weeks since the play-off final. Barry said:-
“It’s been a short break for us but I’m sure that the boys will have had a good holiday and rest. We know that they won’t come back super-fit, that’s what pre-season is for, but I am expecting them to have looked after themselves and be in decent shape.
“On Tuesday we will mainly just get the legs moving, we don’t want to overdo it in the first session. We’ve also got all of the kit to hand out and other things needing to be done to start us off.”
Following that, the first team group will travel to the Channel Island of Jersey for an important five-day training camp. Barry continued:-
“The really hard work starts on Thursday in Jersey. I won’t kid anyone on, it’s going to be tough for the boys and anything but a holiday. Everything is prepared and ready and the full squad is going to be there.
“We travel on Thursday so we’ll have one long session later on that day, with double sessions on Friday, Saturday – including the friendly match – and Monday. In between the double sessions there will be time for lunch and a chance for a couple of hours sleep, as we’ll start early in the morning and have the second session towards evening time. Those days will be really demanding.
“Sunday won’t be quite as a difficult, but overall we’re going to have at least eight sessions during the visit and that’s the equivalent of two and a half weeks’ worth back at home.
“We’re into friendly matches as soon as we get back because of the early start in the League Cup, so the camp becomes even more important in terms of preparing for that phase of the summer schedule.
“It’s a packed schedule and it’ll be tough, but also enjoyable as the boys will want to get fit and get into the best possible shape. It also gives our new signings the chance to fully integrate with the squad and spend a lot of time together.”
