Gormley Joins Unique Club
Clyde forward David Gormley has entered the Clyde history books after scoring four goals during a superb team performance at Berwick Rangers on Saturday.
The 27-year-old became the first man to achieve the feat for The Bully Wee in over 30 years.
The last player to do so was Danny Masterton, who got on the scoresheet four times in a match at Arbroath in April 1982, as club historian Gordon Sydney explained:-
“Danny had grabbed his double by the eighth minute and got his hat-trick by the 21st minute. That was how it stood until half-time. Then, ten minutes into the second half, Pat Nevin made it 4-0. Danny got his fourth in 76 minutes and that ended the scoring.
“His second goal came from a Steve Evans corner and was described as ‘magnificient’ seeing it was a back-heel volley!”
Other members of the exclusive club include; Joe Ward, Basil Keogh, Dougie Wallace, Jock Buchanan, Billy McPhail, Willie Martin, Bill Boyd and Peter Cunningham.
