Barry Demands Squad Ruthlessness

Barry Ferguson spoke to the official website this evening, following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Montrose in Ladbrokes League 2.

The Clyde manager was unsurprisingly disappointed with the result and gave his opinion on the match:-

“It was really disappointing,” he said. “We just weren’t ruthless enough again – and by that I mean the whole team. We have to start taking our chances, but it’s not just the forwards, it’s everyone in the team. It doesn’t matter how a chance comes, set pieces are going to play a big part, so everyone has the responsibility.

“I’ve been in the game a long time and I know there are going to be matches where there aren’t a lot of chances, so we’ve got to take them when they come. I’ve made that clear to the players.”

Barry revealed that the long journey home allowed extra time for post-match discussion to take place:-

“I’m a big believer in keeping what is said in the dressing room between the four walls, but I had my say after the match and we also gave the players the chance to speak. They are an intelligent group and they know themselves that they need to do better.

“The conversations continued all the way home at the back of the bus, I could see that they were really hurting and not accepting what happened. That’s at least one positive I can take from Saturday. It’s been said before, but they are all at Clyde because they want to be here and want to do well for the club.”

Ferguson concluded by looking ahead:-

“I’m not going to deny that I’m disappointed not to have more points on the board, I want to win everything I’m involved in, but it’s early days in terms of the league table. The results on Saturday kept it pretty tight and showed that the league is going to be hard to predict.

“We will get back to work tomorrow night at training and keep at it until things change. One thing we won’t do – players or staff – is feel sorry for ourselves.”

Barry also confirmed that Mark McLaughlin is expected to resume light training this week, with Scott Durie set for an operation on his double hernia at the end of next week.
