Barry Continues Player Search

Clyde manager Barry Ferguson spoke to the official website today, following a busy few days at the club.

The signature of Mark McLaughlin was confirmed on Tuesday and Barry was delighted to have secured the services of the 39-year-old defender.

“We’ve been chasing him for a while so it’s great to get the deal done,” he said. “A number of clubs wanted to sign Mark and he had options to play at a higher level, but he’s bought into what we are trying to do.

“A few people have mentioned his age to me, but it’s just a number. Dumbarton were reluctant to let him go but he still wants to be playing in as many games as possible.

“He’s a strong character and the whole club will benefit from having him signed.”

Following his fourth signing of the transfer window, Barry also revealed that he was still aiming to enhance the squad further before the end of the month:-

“I’m still working on a few different things, but January is a difficult window for various reasons. It’s the second time I’ve been involved in it and I can’t say that I enjoy it and I know a lot of managers feel the same way.

“We had a deal for one player completely agreed, only for the other club to pull out at the last minute. It’s frustrating but I’ll keep trying and hopefully we can bring in another one or two players.”

The Clyde boss was speaking to www.clydefc.co.uk for the first time since a disappointing performance against Berwick Rangers and then a blank Saturday due to Elgin City’s pitch being waterlogged. He continued:-

“We had a long chat with the boys last week and it went well. They are a great bunch, they work really hard, but they can’t keep feeling sorry for themselves when they go a goal down in a match. It’s been a major factor in our season.

“We trained on Saturday after the Elgin match was postponed and, despite the weather, we’ve been able to find training facilities for each session so we’ve had a good week.”
