Away Win Pleases Alan

Clyde goalkeeper Alan Martin spoke to the press yesterday, following The Bully Wee’s single-goal victory away to East Fife in League Two.

Martin produced a fine all-round performance, especially in the early stages of the match when the home side were on top, but he was modest about his own efforts:-

“It’s my job at the end of the day and that’s what I’m here for, to keep the ball out of the goal. I’m happy with myself but more happy with the three points that we needed to start climbing the table.

“It’s a massive three points. The gaffer has been telling us constantly that it doesn’t matter how you win, as long as you win. Today we proved that, as they showed in the first half that they are a good side and they battered us for a while. We stuck together and got the job done though.

“We came through a potential ‘banana skin’ last week with a clean sheet and this week we had the confidence after a good week at training and we’ve managed to get another clean sheet.”

The 25-year-old was also quick to praise the team’s centre half pairing of Brian McQueen and Ryan Frances:-

“Brian and Ryan were superb. They are both big guys and I thought they were excellent. They were also talking to each other and pulling each other in, so we weren’t as wide as we were a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully they can take that on to next week.”

Alan concluded with a positive outlook on the season ahead:-

“The spirit has been high since I came to the club. Anyone that sees us train would say that we’re in a false position in the league. The way that we train and the way that the gaffer and Bob have got us set up is magnificent. Hopefully we’ve had the turning point in our season now and we’ll start moving up the table.

“The play-offs are easily a realistic target for us. It’s a very tight league and we’re only a few points away from it at the moment.”
