O’Donnell and Gibson Sign

Clyde FC is pleased to announce that Stephen O’Donnell and Andy Gibson have signed for the club.

O’Donnell, 31, needs little introduction to supporters as he returns for a second spell with The Bully Wee. The midfielder previously joined the club in 2005 and was part of the team that famously defeated Celtic in the Scottish Cup that season.

He made a total of 63 appearances with 16 goals for Clyde, before moving on to Premier League side St.Mirren the following year. In 2010, he made a subsequent move to Dundee and went on to become club captain at Dens Park after their promotion to the top league in 2012.

However, a serious injury led to O’Donnell enduring a lengthy spell on the sidelines and, after being unable to play regular competitive football last season, he left The Dark Blues in the summer.

His return to Broadwood was completed today as the paperwork was finalised on a one-year deal.

Clyde boss Barry Ferguson said, “I’m absolutely delighted to get Stephen in, I’ve been working on the deal for two or three weeks now. He’s a quality player and a great leader on and off the park.

“I know that he has had injuries to deal with, but that happens to a lot of players and I’m more interested in what he can bring to the club going forward. He’s been looking after himself during the summer, but he’ll need a couple of weeks to get fully up to speed with the rest of the squad.

“He’s someone that the younger squad members can really look up to and I’m excited about what he can offer to Clyde.”

A similar deal has also been concluded for 32-year-old Gibson as he joins The Bully Wee from Beith Juniors.

The winger began his career at Partick Thistle and went on to have spells at Stirling Albion (twice), Stranraer and East Stirling.

“Andy has a lot of experience and he can play anywhere across the midfield,” Barry continued. “He’s another good guy to have in the dressing room and he fitted in really well with the squad at training this week.

“Like Stephen, he’s the sort of person I want to have in my dressing room, that’s a really important factor for me.

“I’m hoping to add more players to the squad on Monday and we’ll confirm any deals through the website as soon as we can.”
