East Stirlingshire 2-4 Clyde

Clyde’s play-off bid was kept firmly on track today, thanks to an impressive League Two victory over East Stirling at Ochilview.

Following last week’s defeat at Berwick, Jim Duffy added the returning pair of Brian McQueen and Michael Daly to the starting line-up.

The match started well for Clyde, with Kieran MacDonald’s excellent free-kick opening the scoring after just 6 minutes.

The lead was soon doubled when Stef McCluskey (pictured) did well to get on the end of a long pass and, after his initial cross was blocked, he found the roof of the net from close range.

However, only a few minutes after that goal The Shire edged back into the match when Brian McQueen unwittingly deflected a cross past Jamie Barclay and into the net.

Barclay was then forced into a good low save by Scott Maxwell, but The Bully Wee responded again and Neil Jancyzk’s inch perfect free-kick was converted by the head of Daly to make the scoreline 1-3.

The match could have been over by half-time when, just before the break, Scott Ferguson was denied a stonewall penalty as he was illegally prevented from heading Stuart McColm’s cross into the net.

Early in the second half, a fourth goal did arrive though. McCluskey got his second of the day with a fine 25 yard shot that looped over Grant Hay in the home goal.

The rest of the match was played out comfortably by Clyde, with an injury time strike by East Stirling substitute Kevin Turner only taking a little gloss off the final result.
