Legends Match Date Confirmed

There has been a fantastic response to the fundraising challenge match following its announcement last week, with many supporters and former players contacting the club about taking part.

The end of season match at Broadwood Stadium will feature a host of Clyde legends and offer 20 supporters the chance to take to the field alongside some fantastic names from The Bully Wee’s past.

Following discussions with the club’s landlords, North Lanarkshire Leisure, the match has been confirmed to take place on Sunday 27th April (6pm).

The latest list of confirmed ex-players includes; Davie Wylie, Keith Knox, Pat Keogh, Paul Ronald, John McAuley, Lee Sharp, Paul Hay, Andy McClay, Stevie Convery, Richie McCusker, Jamie Mitchell, Eddie Annand, Brian Carrigan, Craig McEwan, Jack Ross and Mark McLaughlin.

Harry Hood has also agreed to be one of the team managers.

The cost for fans to play in the game is £100, or £150 to include a framed Clyde shirt duly autographed by all of the former players. All proceeds will be presented to the club’s Player Development Fund.

17 fans have already signed up and paid the donation to play. Fan participation will be restricted to a maximum of 20, who will all be guaranteed 45 minutes of game time if their fitness levels permit.

Club director and event organiser, Bobby Gracey said, “I have been overwhelmed by the response from both Clyde fans and former players, desperate to return to the club for one more moment in red, white and black! I am also working to secure a sponsor for the event, so that all participants can enjoy a meal and refreshments as part of the overall package.

“We now have a firm date and NLL have confirmed that, whilst the game is officially billed as a closed door event, they have no objection to fans coming along to watch some of their former Clyde favorites or family members take to the Broadwood pitch. I would like to express my personal thanks to Graeme Atkinson and his team at NLL team for assisting with the arrangements for what is turning out to be a very popular event in the 2014 calendar.

“We only have 3 spaces left, so if you are wishing to be part of this event I’d ask that you contact me directly as soon as you can, to prevent any disappointment.”
