Clyde 2-1 Brora Rangers

For the first time since the 2008-09 season, The Bully Wee will compete in the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup, following a hard-fought victory over Brora Rangers at Broadwood today.

Jim Duffy named the same starting line-up that faced Stirling Albion last week, with Gavin Brown free to play despite being sent off in that match.

However, the match got off to the worst possible start for Clyde as the Highland League side grabbed the lead after only 3 minutes. A speculative effort by Zander Sutherland eluded Jamie Barclay and the ball squirmed into the net.

Brora’s advantage didn’t last long though, as Stef McCluskey (pictured) scored a great equaliser ten minutes later. The striker rounded the ‘keeper and finished well, after latching onto a fine pass from Stuart McColm.

The contest continued to be open for the rest of the first half, but no more goals were scored before the half-time break.

Early in the second half, The Cattachs spurned a good chance to take the lead again when Steven MacKay put a header off target from a vicious free-kick into the box.

At the other end, Scott Ferguson found himself through on goal after a flick by Pat Scullion, but the winger’s shot was well saved by Joe Malin. From the resulting corner, David Marsh’s header hit the bar and bounced to safety.

Kevin Watt was then introduced to the action and he scored the winning goal only moments later. From a short corner, Ferguson delivered a low cross and Watt did well to find the bottom corner of the net with a first time shot.

Shortly after the goal John Sweeney was unlucky not to finish the match off, as his curling effort from outside the box beat Malin but clipped the outside of the post.

The visitors attempted to throw caution to the wind in the closing minutes – including putting Ross Tokely up front – but the Clyde defence held firm to confirm the club’s place in Tuesday’s draw.
