Gala FR 0-3 Clyde

Clyde progressed to the Third Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup this afternoon, with a 3-0 victory against Gala Fairydean Rovers.

Following the club’s last outing against Montrose, Jim Duffy added David Marsh, Gavin Brown and Pat Scullion to the starting line-up.

Watched by a healthy away support, Clyde started the match strongly. Kevin Watt (pictured) had two early chances to open the scoring; first following a surging run and cross by Stuart McColm and then from only yards out, after Scott Ferguson put in a low ball from the touchline.

The Bully Wee continued to dominate and create chances, without finding the important opening goal. Pat Scullion hit the bar with a header, before John Sweeney smashed the ball against the same woodwork with a shot from the edge of the box.

The frustration continued for Clyde after the half-time break, as Watt’s header just missed the bottom corner of Gala’s goal and Scullion failed to hit the target from inside the box.

However, the breakthrough finally arrived on the hour mark, when McColm and MacDonald combined to set up Watt and he turned and found the net with a low shot.

A second goal for The Bully Wee seemed to make the tie safe, as substitute Michael Daly met a corner and headed the ball home.

In the last minute, Stef McCluskey released McColm on the left wing and he made his way into the box and slipped the ball past John Dodds to confirm Clyde’s place in Monday’s Third Round draw.
