Golf Day Raises £7k

The inaugural Clyde FC Players Championship golf event took place on Friday 6th September at the Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort in Cumbernauld.

The day was a fantastic success and, after all costs, around £7,000 was raised for the club.

Club director, Bobby Gracey said: “The feedback following the golf day has been tremendous and everyone has been asking if we can organise a similar event again.

“The most pleasing aspect of the day for me, apart from raising a significant sum of money for the club, was having a great day and evening dinner with a room packed with fantastic Clyde people; the current first team squad, former players, academy and community representatives, loyal fans, supporters team players and even Clyde FC Twitter followers!”

The inaugural winner of the tournament (pictured) was our head goalkeeper coach Alan Fraser who was accompanied by fellow ‘keeper Gordon McIntyre, who wore the number 1 shirt for The Bully Wee in the late 90s.

Manager Jim Duffy – who was playing in Harry Hood’s team that included former Celtic player Bobby Petta – managed to pick up the ‘closest to the pin’ prize.

Pat Scullion also scooped two prizes, for ‘longest drive’ and ‘closest to the line’.

Bobby continued, “I should also mention that club captain John Sweeney managed to lose his scorecard, however I’m sure that this loss had nothing to do with the score on the card!

“Following the positive feedback received from those attending we will definitely be adding this second golf event to our annual fundraising calendar.

“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the day such a great success, including the various businesses who participated, event sponsors, Clyde players of past and present and raffle prize donations. In particular, I would like to single out fellow director Gary Ballantyne who worked tirelessly to ensure every aspect of the day was delivered.”
