Youth Academy Update
The club’s Youth Academy has had a busy summer behind the scenes, getting ready for the new season.
Several members of last year’s Under-19 side have already featured for the first team in pre-season matches and this age group looks set to be an important part of the club going into the 2013-14 campaign.
It was previously announced that Lee Sharp and Eddie Annand would be coaching the side, however Eddie is now unable to fulfil the role due to other commitments. The club is therefore pleased to announce that Pat Keogh has agreed to work alongside Lee. As a hugely popular ex-player, Pat needs little introduction to Clyde supporters and it’s great to have him back at the club.
Youth Academy Director, Willie O’Neill said:
“We are delighted that Pat is joining our coaching set-up here. He was a great player for the club and we are really pleased that he his starting his coaching career with Clyde. In Lee and Pat with have two guys who have a lot of experience from their playing days, as well as a knowledge of playing for The Bully Wee.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them work with the under-19s during the season ahead.”
Recent changes in the Academy have been significant and the club is delighted that it has been awarded a 3 Star rating by the Scottish FA Club Licensing Department. This means that The Bully Wee’s youth teams will be eligible to play against some of the best teams in the country and playing against the likes of Celtic, Hibernian and Dundee United on a weekly basis and will assist in attracting a better quality of player at an earlier age.
Several new faces have also been added to the Academy team. Stuart Hastie will oversee the club’s newly formed Junior Academy, for age groups under-11 and under-12. Chris Cummings has commenced in the role of Head of Scouting and who has already identified some very talented youngsters for the club.
All of which will hopefully help the club in the future and www.clydefc.co.uk will endeavor to keep you updated on the progress being made in the season ahead.
