Investment in Jamie and Kieran
Clyde director Bobby Gracey contacted the official website with an update on off-field commercial matters and there was good news ahead of the 2013-14 season.
Bobby confirmed that, in the past couple of weeks, both Jamie Barclay and Kieran MacDonald have been snapped up as part of the club’s Young Player Investment Initiative.
The scheme offers a unique opportunity for sponsors to assist in the training and development of players under the age of 23. The concept of the programme is to nurture the potential of a player during his time at Clyde, with a commitment of a two-year deal given with the help of sponsor funds. As the player develops, Clyde FC and the sponsor will be entitled to a 50% share of any initial transfer fee received for him.
Bobby said: “As a result of various discussions, an individual investor came forward to sponsor and invest in Clyde ‘keeper Jamie Barclay. This was quickly followed by a consortium group coming together to similarly back Kieran MacDonald. The group is led by some well-known supporters; Ian Letham, David Dalziel and Tommy Smith.
“It is not surprising that, following the tremendous efforts of both Jamie and Kieran, they have been identified in such a way. If they maintain the level of performance witnessed last season then they have a real chance to progress as professional football players.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to put on record the club’s thanks for these investments. I would also urge any other individuals or consortium groups to consider supporting the club in this way as it really does make a huge difference towards our annual squad budget.”
Bobby also confirmed that the club is in final negotiations in relation to sponsorship of both away strips, with further details to be announced in the next couple of weeks.
