Shielfield Park hosted an entertaining IRN-BRU Third Division match this afternoon, as Clyde left England with a credible point after both teams shared six goals.
With Gavin Brown and Kevin Nicoll missing from the team that faced Elgin last week, Jim Duffy shuffled the pack as John Kane and Lee Sharp returned to the starting line-up.
The Bully Wee opened the scoring after 27 minutes, with Sharp getting his first goal for the club in fine style. The defender found the net with a great strike from a free-kick from 20 yards.
That proved to be the only goal before the half-time break, with Berwick unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after creating several chances. One of them forced Sharp into action at the other end, as a shot hit the post and Jamie Barclay before being cleared off the line by the full back.
However, two quick goals for the home side after the interval completely changed the outlook of the match. Darren Lavery got the first with a simple tap in, following a cross by Dylan Easton. Easton was involved again as the second goal went in moments later, as he set up Fraser McLaren to nod the ball past Barclay.
Berwick’s lead only lasted ten minutes though, as Clyde equalised on the hour mark. Stef McCluskey and Kevin Watt combined to create a chance for John Sweeney (pictured) and he took it superbly, finding the top corner of net.
The momentum of the match continued to swing as The Wee Rangers claimed a third goal. Another delivery into the box wasn’t dealt with by the Clyde defence and Lavery scored his second goal of the match, converting a header from an unmarked position.
With ten minutes left to play, The Bully Wee came back from behind again to secure a battling draw. Substitute Pat Scullion was on hand to finish after more good support play by McCluskey.
