Frank Steps Down

Frank Dunn has today announced his decision to step down from the Clyde FC Board. Frank, of course, remains a lifelong Bully Wee man, in the Dunn family tradition and commenting on his departure, Frank said:

“It is with more than a little regret that I announce my decision to resign from the Board with immediate effect. It has been a rollercoaster 8 years with many difficult challenges but many more happy memories and valued friendships. My association with Clyde stretches back for as long as I remember – probably 60 years – and I will continue to support the Club on a number of fronts.”

That support has been significant in recent years, from leading high profile events such as the club’s highly successful Annual Golf Day to working in the background to secure additional backing for the Bully Wee. His close personal links with Sir Alex Ferguson have brought Manchester United to Broadwood twice in the last seven years (2005 and 2009) which created great memories for supporters.

Frank’s effort was not always solely focussed on the club and when his name came out of the hat in the sponsors’ draw in May 2010, he chose to highlight the work of The British Heart Foundation on the club’s shirts as the recipients of the sponsorship; an action which demonstrated his ongoing commitment for others.

At the Annual Sports Dinner in 2011 it was particularly fitting that the Dunn Family were inducted into the Clyde Hall of Fame. The Dunn’s family association, which goes right back to the founding roots of the club, is one that has seen all the highs and lows imaginable in football.

Frank followed the Clyde tradition of having part of the extended Dunn family at the helm of The Bully Wee when he formalised his own connection with the club as a director in 2004 and took part in the consortium that rescued the club from insolvency. Frank has been in the trenches ever since, serving through some of the most difficult years for the club and has fought tirelessly to ensure that it survived.

Recently, Frank accepted an esteemed position within the Royal College of Physicians, but despite the demands of his new role it is hoped that Frank and his wife Helen will continue to represent the club home and away. Frank has become well known around the SFL for saying a few well-researched words of welcome to visiting directors, words in which he never fails to find an appropriate way to remind our visitors that Clyde are justifiably a famous club.

All of us at Clyde appreciate and respect the unquantifiable commitment that the Dunn family has shown to the Bully Wee. Whilst Frank might be the latest family member to move to the ‘back benches’ it is important to recognise that the family are still highly active in supporting the club through membership, volunteering, and direct support for fundraising activities.

The board are delighted for Frank and the accolade bestowed upon him by his profession and we wish him every success for the future.
