Clyde 2-2 Berwick Rangers
There was late Valentine’s drama at Broadwood tonight, as The Borderers snatched a point with a goal deep into injury time.
Gavin Brown returned to the starting line-up, as Paul Hay missed out and Michael Oliver moved back to a midfield slot.
Clyde made a great start to the match and secured a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes. Brown notched the first, driving into the box and putting a fine shot into the far corner of the net.
The second came via a low Jack Sloss free-kick, which appeared to evade everyone and bounce straight into the net.
However, the game’s momentum turned back towards the visitors via two key moments before half-time. Richard Walker got a crucial goal back with a close range header, before Iain Gray was sent off just before the break. The defender was ruled to have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity as a long ball caused problems.
Despite Berwick’s numerical advantage in the second half, Clyde continued to put in an impressive display, limiting the amount of chances given away and still offering a goal threat on the break.
There were scares for David Crawford’s goal, however. Brian McQueen only just cleared a corner from danger with the help of the woodwork and Crawford was relieved to see a flick from point-blank range bounce off him and away to safety.
At the other end, substitute Ryan Kane was extremely unlucky not to finish the game off, when he raced towards goal and saw his shot come crashing back off the bar.
With 92 minutes on the clock, it appeared as though the team’s hard work would be rewarded with a win but Damon Gray issued a cruel blow when he got on the end of a low cross from the left wing and prodded the ball past Crawford.
