PREVIEW: Well Up For It
Clyde host Motherwell at Broadwood tomorrow night, in an eagerly anticipated Scottish Communities League Cup tie. The Bully Wee earned a place in the Second Round with a fine victory at Brechin City in July.
After a strong start to the Third Division campaign, the match also represents a chance for Jim Duffy and the squad to test themselves against one of the country’s best sides.
Duffy was well aware of how hard the match would be for his young side when he spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk:-
“Tonight will certainly be a difficult task and it will be interesting to see how the players cope. There will be more publicity, more people in the ground and for the vast majority in the squad this will be the first time they have played against SPL players.
“In two cup competitions last season, Motherwell got to the final and to the semi-final. It is an extremely tough tie but we will do our very best. People say we have nothing to lose but that is wrong; we have a cup tie to lose and we will do what we can to spring a surprise.”
One player who won’t be taking to the field is Felip Mentel, with the ‘keeper’s loan deal not permitting him to feature in the competition. However, Paul McMullan could return following illness.
Kick-off is 7.45pm, with extra-time and penalties being played to find a winner if required.
