Elgin City 0-1 Clyde

Clyde gathered a welcome three points in the Highlands this afternoon, with a win that takes the Bully Wee to within touching distance of East Stirling in the IRN-BRU Third Division.

Jim Duffy made no less than nine changes to the team that started against Arbroath on Wednesday. Graham Girvan, Ricky Waddell, Ross McMillan, Ally Park, Jamie McCluskey, Kevin Finlayson and Marc McCusker all returned and they were joined by two surprise inclusions; JC Hutchison and Haydn Cochrane.

It was Cochrane that made a quick impact as he helped Clyde grab an early lead. His clever pass released McCusker and the club’s top scorer finished with style (pictured).

A well contested first half produced no more goals despite chances at either end, with McCusker coming close to getting a second for the Bully Wee.

However, the second half was dominated by Elgin and it took a brilliant performance by JC Hutchison to secure a victory. The ‘keeper produced four or five fantastic saves as the home side piled on the pressure for the majority of the second period.

City’s attacking reached a nerve-shredding crescendo during added time as they almost scored on at least three occasions, but Clyde held on until a long-awaited final whistle.

The result means that a win over The Shire in Tuesday night’s match at Broadwood will move the club off the bottom of the league table for the first time since September.
