Mariners Say Thanks

Earlier in the month, Clyde supporters team Bully Wee United took on Internet Mariners (pictured) of Grimsby Town in an IFA UK Cup Second Round tie.

The match was held on the Broadwood Astroturf and finished 4-2 to BWU, after a comeback from two goals down. The outcome no doubt disappointed the Grimsby fans, following a weather affected journey with only eleven players (circumstances strangely similar to BWU’s First Round trip to Cambridge!) and such a closely contested match.

However, both sets of lads got on very well, both during the well-spirited game and off the pitch. Arrangements were made to make the Grimsby fans Saturday afternoon at Clyde v Annan as enjoyable as possible before they set off for home. Internet Mariners manager, Craig Nuttall kindly took the time to write a thank-you letter to Bully Wee chairman John Alexander and it is reproduced below.

Dear John,

I am writing to thank you for your club’s hospitality during our recent visit to Broadwood Stadium.

We were drawn together in the IFA UK Cup and your supporters team and match day staff are an absolute credit to your football club. To be treated to the stadium tour, meal and seats in a box for the afternoon match vs Annan Athletic was a truly memorable experience. If your supporters team are to ever visit Grimsby I hope we are able to reciprocate the welcome and generosity.

Once again, thank you, and I wish you and your club every success for the future, particularly for the remainder of the season.

Yours Sincerely,

Craig Nuttall
IMIFC Manager

Clyde FC was certainly pleased to welcome the Mariners team to Broadwood and they represented their club very well throughout the whole trip.

Bully Wee United now have a lengthy wait to find out who they will face in the Quarter-Finals of the competition, with the draw expected to take place later in March.
