Clyde 1-4 Berwick Rangers
Clyde went down to a heavy defeat at Broadwood this afternoon, as free-scoring Berwick hit the top of the Third Division table.
The Bully Wee started the match well and Bryan Dingwall was unlucky not to score his first goal for the club, with two efforts testing Ian McCaldon in the away goal.
After 8 minutes, however, a slice of luck put the visitors in front. A long-range effort by Notman went through the attempted block of Alan Lithgow, deflecting past JC Hutchison into the net.
That made it more difficult for Clyde to create chances, but an Adam Strachan delivery nearly led to an equaliser before half-time. Marc McCusker met the winger’s cross only to see his effort crash back off the bar, with Dingwall’s attempt from the rebound being cleared off the line.
The second half nearly got off to a perfect start when Dingwall found himself through on the ‘keeper, but he couldn’t finish and his shot found the side netting.
The leveller did eventually come on 59 minutes though, with a Strachan corner being headed powerfully into the bottom corner of the goal by Marc McCusker.
Unfortunately, there was little time for Clyde to build on that goal as Berwick regained the lead a few minutes later. A stretched home defence couldn’t stop a low cross reaching the back post and it left an easy tap in for Paul Currie.
The Wee Gers took control of proceedings thereafter and Craig O’Reilly made it 1-3 when he nodded home at the second attempt, following a block by Hutchison.
There was still time for a further blow to be inflicted by the visibly confident visitors, with Currie getting his second of the match from close range after latching onto a clever weighted pass.
