Cup Duties Continue

For the second Saturday in a row, it’s cup duty for the Bully Wee as Cowdenbeath visit Broadwood in the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

The First Division visitors will travel to Cumbernauld as favourites and are coming off the back of a fine result in the ALBA Challenge Cup.

The Clyde squad will be stretched by the absence of up to three players. Haydn Cochrane and Stuart Mills are definitely out after collecting injuries during the week. John Stewart could join them in the stands, as he is rated as doubtful.

On the plus side, Murray Henderson is available again after missing the Partick Thistle match due to suspension. It looks like Ally Park will be fit to play – the defender having recovered from a hamstring strain – and Willie Sawyers is added to the pool, after coming through the midweek friendly against Camelon successfully.

Stuart Millar was looking forward to his first competitive match at Broadwood as head coach when he spoke to the official website:-

“I’m really looking forward to this tie. After all, it is the first proper home game of the season and that is important for us. It represents another tough task in what has been a challenging start to the season.

“Cowdenbeath had a terrific result last Saturday against their rivals Raith Rovers. We watched the game at Starks Park and the players, Jimmy Nicholl and Colin Cameron deserve a lot of credit for that result. It demonstrates that we will need to be on our toes to get a positive result and it would be great for the club to get into the next round and potentially play an SPL side.”

After praising the Clyde support at Firhill earlier in the week, Stuart once again emphasised the role that the fans had to play this year:-

“It is vital that the players get to know the fans and build a rapport and I’m delighted the group of players here are keen to do just that. As long as I’m here that will remain the same; if players and staff treat supporters well then I believe they will get the right response when they need it.

“Saturday was the proof of that as the backing was truly fantastic. The players would certainly appreciate the same tomorrow at home.”

You can read the extended thoughts of Stuart in tomorrow’s mini-edition of the Clyde View, priced at just £1.50.
