Clyde 3-1 Peterhead

The Bully Wee’s good run of form continued with a fine win over Peterhead at Broadwood this afternoon.

Neil Watt had to make some last minute adjustments to the team when Ally Park suffered a hip injury in the warm-up, with Willie McLachlan stepping up from the bench and Steven Howarth taking a substitute slot.

That didn’t affect Clyde’s start to the match though, as, after just 9 seconds, Willie Sawyers notched the UK’s fastest goal of the season. He managed to get on the end of Neil McGowan’s long pass and neatly chipped the onrushing ‘keeper, for what may also be the quickest goal ever scored at Broadwood.

The Bully Wee continued to dominate the early proceedings and soon made it 2-0. Adam Strachan’s shot from outside the box was pulled but it rolled into the path of John Stewart at the back post and he hit the back of the net.

Stewart soon had a glorious chance to increase the lead when he went clear on Peterhead ‘keeper Bateman, but couldn’t hit the target.

The second half continued to be comfortable for a lively Clyde side and more good play almost brought a third goal. Strachan fed Sawyers in the box and his shot from a tight angle came back off the post, with Stewart unable to position himself to knock in the rebound.

However, the Blue Toon were given a lifeline on 65 minutes. A cross from the right seemed to evade several defenders but not Connor Gethans, who smashed the ball home at the back post.

Thankfully, an Alan Lithgow free-kick sealed the win ten minutes later. The big defender powered a shot at goal from just outside the box and it appeared to take a slight deflection before finding the roof of the goal.
