Clyde 2-1 East Fife

Clyde earned a much needed win at Broadwood today, with a well deserved 2-1 triumph over East Fife.

Connor Stevenson, Kris Doolan and Neil McGowan returned to the Bully Wee starting line-up and a lively first half had chances at both ends, with Clyde creating the majority of them.

Doolan found himself through on the ‘keeper twice but couldn’t convert and Willie Sawyers saw his header well saved by Brown in the Fifers’ goal. Stevie Crawford came close to grabbing a goal for the visitors when his shot crashed off the bar.

Soon after the break, Clyde opened the scoring when Sawyers collected a free-kick into the box and blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

Minutes later, Alan Lithgow did brilliantly to get back and clear a Crawford shot off the line, after the East Fife player-manager had gone round Callum Reidford.

It looked to be Clyde’s day when Jordan White neatly slotted the ball into the corner but the away side ensured a nervy finish by getting a goal back under debatable circumstances. The referee awarded a free-kick against Ally Park to everyone’s bemusement and the resultant cross saw Paul McManus force the ball goalwards; Lithgow tried to clear the danger on the line but the assistant referee adjudged that the ball had crossed the line.

To the team’s credit, they responded positively to that setback and held firm for a vital three points.
