Clyde 0-2 Dumbarton
Another chance to narrow the gap on the teams above was missed tonight, as yet again at Broadwood the opening goal proved decisive in deciding the outcome of the match.
There was little to get excited about in the opening stages, but Clyde were on top and trying to take the game to the Sons. Alan Lithgow, returning from injury to a midfield role, was unlucky not to score when his shot from the edge of the box was brilliantly saved by Vonacek.
A breakaway by the visitors led to Winters getting a shot away in the box and, in typical fashion of late, it took a cruel deflection and bundled past Callum Reidford and into the net.
That setback seemed to dent the Bully Wee’s confidence again and clear-cut chances were few and far between at either end for the rest of the match.
A strong second half penalty claim was waved away before Dumbarton doubled their lead with a neat goal, finished off by Winters at the back post. Sub John Stewart had a great chance to get a goal back soon afterwards, but he tried to go round the ‘keeper unsuccessfully.
Fellow strikers Sawyers and Borisovs also joined the action from the bench, but couldn’t help to drag Clyde back into the match as they tried in vain until the final whistle.
