Dumbarton 3-3 Clyde

The Bully Wee earned their first point of the season at Dumbarton today, following an eventful match.

Clyde, in a changed 4-4-2 formation, started well and looked the more likely to score. The threat was proved correct when Alan Lithgow nodded home at the back post from a dangerous delivery by trialist, Willie McLachlan.

Lithgow then made it two with a fine header in off the bar from a McLachlan corner.

However, a moment of madness by Callum Reidford opened the game up again. The Clyde ‘keeper inexplicably lashed out at a Sons player and was shown a red card. Jordan Allan was the replacement between the sticks, with Alan McFadden the unlucky man forced to step aside.

The home side then used the advantage to score on the stroke of half-time, a little fortunately after Paul Stewart blocked a shot and the ball ended up being nodded in on the line.

Scott Gair replaced Mark Casey at the break and the second period was a rearguard action for Clyde. Another set piece goal made it 2-2 though, with ex-Broadwood man Roddy Hunter heading into the net.

The best goal of the match followed almost immediately afterwards. Jamie Doyle won a free-kick around 30 yards from goal and McLachlan put a stunning shot into the top corner of the net to restore the lead again.

It wasn’t to be for John Brown’s men though, as a late headed goal rescued a point for the Sons.
