Game of Support for Richie

Sun, 1st Feb 2009 4:49pm

Everyone connected with Clyde FC has been saddened to learn of the recent health problems suffered by Richie McCusker.

Richie was a very popular player in his time at Broadwood. He signed in 1998 from Maryhill Juniors as part of the 'Ronnie Revolution' and was an instant hit with his forward-thinking midfield play and goalscoring ability.

His goals tended to be in the memorable category; that season including a wonderful strike at Firhill, a late equaliser at Inverness and one of the four in the famous rout of Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy.

He went on to play a big part in the title winning team of 1999-00, before injury hampered his progress and he eventually left the club in 2001.

By then he had notched 87 appearances for the Bully Wee, scoring a fine 17 goals.

Unfortunately, Richie, now 38, has suffered two strokes in the past 18 months.

A game of support is being organised to help him. The match is between Maryhill Legends and Pollok Legends and will take place at Lochburn Park on Sunday, 8th March (1.45pm). A host of former Bully Wee favourites will be on display, including the likes of Ian Spittal, Darren Murray, Andy McClay and Allan Grant.

The attendance of Clyde fans would be very welcome, with tickets available from the Club Shop at Broadwood for a minimum donation of £5.
