Reserves Earn Late Point

Mon, 12th Jan 2009 11:07pm

Stranraer visited Broadwood on Reserve League Cup duty tonight and the match finished 1-1.

The Bully Wee fielded a side that contained both experienced players and rising stars from the youth development department. John Brown commented after the match that he was very pleased with the youngsters' contribution.

One of them, substitute Darren Walker, got Clyde's goal with only three minutes remaining when he headed home a cross from the left.

It was Clyde who created most of the first half chances but, like the first team on Saturday, failed to find that killer touch. Chris Higgins hit the crossbar following a corner, Roddy MacLennan came close after a good move with Alan Lowing and Gary McSwegan should have scored after being put in by Ruari MacLennan.

However, Stranraer took the lead after 50 minutes when Murdoch headed home a corner from the right. Within a minute, they had a glorious chance to make it 0-2 but Peter Cherrie saved well.

Scotland Schools cap Steven Howarth looked lively after being brought on at half-time and nearly scored, but then succumbed to a chest injury.

Tony Stevenson and Roddy MacLennan also came close to equalising before Walker's late goal earned a point.

CLYDE: Cherrie, Lowing, Higgins, Brown (Howarth 45 (Morton 67)), Irvine (Walker 79), T Stevenson, Roddy MacLennan, C Stevenson, McSwegan, Ruari MacLennan, Waddell.
