Waddell and McLaren Sign On

John Brown made his third and fourth signings of the summer this morning when he captured ex-Airdrie and St. Johnstone winger Willie McLaren and Airdrie United’s Ricky Waddell.

Waddell (left), the former Falkirk, Partick Thistle and Hamilton man, has signed a two-year deal with the club and spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk after putting pen to paper:-

“I’m delighted to be here and to get things sorted this early in the summer. I had an offer to go and play in England for a bit more money but I was keen to stay in Scotland and play in the First Division with Clyde.

“John spoke to me after the play-off matches. I was impressed by his ambitions for the club and I wanted to be part of it. I think it’s going to be a really competitive league next year with no easy matches but I’m looking forward to it.”

23-year-old McLaren was tipped for great things when he appeared on the scene with Airdrie and a big money move to Perth followed in 2006.

However, things did not work out as expected at McDiarmid Park and Willie left there and began training with Clyde towards the end of last season.

That spell, which included successful appearances for the reserves, was enough to convince John Brown that he merited a one-year deal, which he signed this morning.
