St. Johnstone 1 v 1 Clyde

A terrific strike by Dougie Imrie was not enough to clinch victory this afternoon as Clyde drew 1-1 with St Johnstone. The Bully Wee produced a vastly improved performance but were denied a crucial win when Kenny Deuchar fortunately equalised via a rare David Hutton error seven minutes from time.

After a fairly even first half, Clyde made a lightning start to the second period and continued to dominate the match for long spells. Imrie, Cardle and Masterton came close to adding further Clyde goals but at the other end Craig McKeown and Chris Higgins both produced superb last-ditch tackles to stop Saints scoring in a frantic end to proceedings.

Dougie Bell took the post-match press conference and was delighted with the improvement in the team’s display, “It was a good performance, in particular I thought Ruari MacLennan showed the potential he has today. On the whole it was very pleasing team effort.”

Commenting on that equaliser, Dougie continued, “It was mistake and David’s upset about it but the boys in the dressing room are standing by him and trying to raise his spirits.”
