Not Col Over Tonight
Colin Hendry somehow managed to find the time to talk to www.clydefc.co.uk this afternoon in the midst of a constant stream of incoming and outgoing calls, as the Clyde Manager continued to work hard at adding to the squad ahead of tomorrow’s First Division match against
Dundee.
However, he was keen to state that the midnight ‘transfer deadline’ does not signal the end of this process and that further signings may actually happen next week:-
“We’d obviously like to have more depth in the squad but we managed to get two in yesterday which is a big boost. We’re still working hard on adding more numbers today but midnight is not the end of it.
“People get caught up in the deadline date but there are ways and means of bringing people to the club after that and there’s a high chance we’ll do that. We’ve got a bounce match organised for next week where we will continue to look at players that are still available and eligible for transfer.”
Clyde supporters present at Broadwood tomorrow will probably get a first look at new signings Joe Cardle and Danny Kirkup. Both players took part in training with the rest of the squad this morning and Joe was made welcome by Christian Smith, who he has known for a number of years. Colin continued:-
“Joe and Danny are likely to feature tomorrow and they will on a regular basis. When discussing a potential loan deal with other managers the first thing they will ask is how much they will play. Our sales pitch to other managers suits that because players that come to Clyde will be heavily involved from the outset. Loan players at the club will be treated like the rest of the squad and hopefully be part of our main objective; putting a winning team on the park.

“Both lads are flexible players. Danny can play in a number of positions at the back and Joe is happy on the right or left wing. He has incredible energy levels. I’ve seen them both many times in the past. I didn’t think they would be available to be honest but if you don’t ask you don’t get and we’ve been working on that basis. They’re coming to something totally different now and I’ve already spoken to them about how competitive the league is.
“Bringing them in will also allow other players to take on other roles. We don’t have the luxury of having two in each position so we’ll need players to play away from their favoured position from time to time.”
To conclude, Colin gave his thoughts on the prospect of facing Alex Rae’s Dundee team:
“There’s plenty to take from last week. The result and performance was so different from the Firhill match just a week before so it gave me plenty of food for thought.
“I have seen Dundee and also had them watched. They’re well drilled and Alex has assembled a good squad with good backing. They’ll be the bookies favourites to win the match but we have an inner belief that if we do things right then we have a chance to win any game.”
