Hendry Ready!
Colin Hendry spoke exclusively to www.clydefc.co.uk and he was in a confident mood prior to his first alternative Glasgow Derby. “We are going with confidence and will go all out to win. The players are feeling good about things and want to build on our midweek victory.
“It will also be vital for the players to hear the backing of the supporters. The fans do make a huge difference and the players pick up on that positive support. I hear some of the fans are concerned about how things have worked out on and off the pitch so far this season.
“I appreciate totally that they want players to be signed yesterday but I would urge them to remain as positive as they can be. A negative outlook can affect the players. Experienced players can sometimes shrug off negativity but young players take it all to heart even if it’s not aimed at them. I know how passionate Clyde fans are about the club and it is brilliant to have that behind us at this time.
“I’m working to bring players in and I want to give the fans the squad they deserve – after all it is their club. They deserve a break and we know tomorrow is a special game.
“We have a great nucleus. I’m not denying we need to add to it but we are fortunate in the talent that we have got at Broadwood. That is a tribute to the work that has gone on before and it is up to me to use this talent effectively.
“Michael Doherty, Ruari MacLennan and David McGowan all featured in midweek and the youngsters continue to do well for us. I have no qualms about pitching them in tomorrow. The one thing at this club is that the players who sign know that they will get a chance in the First Team squad; they will not be sitting in the stands.”
On the subject of augmenting the squad, Colin mentioned one of the problems…
“We looked at trialists on Wednesday night but it is difficult for these guys. Fitness wise they are playing catch up and at Clyde we would need the players to go straight into the squad. We’ve seen to date Christian Smith struggle at times for fitness because he missed the first two weeks of pre-season. He is now getting to grips with the rigours of the Scottish game and he will be an asset to us but he has had to work extremely hard to get to the same level as the others.
“Regardless of whether we have success soon in adding to the squad, tomorrow is a huge game and it is one I’m looking forward to immensely.”
