Midweek Update

It continues to be a busy time for everyone at the Club as preparations continue towards the start of the 2007/08 season. Colin Hendry spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk this evening, following on from last night’s closed door friendly against East Stirling:-

“The match let me see what I am working with – purely and simply that was the aim of it. We did also manage to get a lot of the younger players involved which was good.

“In general the pre-season is going well and the fitness levels are looking good. At the moment we are upping the ante in terms of bringing players to the club.”

Colin was understandably tight-lipped on any potential targets but he did have news on some familiar faces that have yet to commit their future:-

“We have offered deals to Ryan McCann, Gary Arbuckle, Robert Harris, Kevin Bradley and David McGowan (pictured). Negotiations with them are an ongoing process that we’re trying to speed up but there’s a lot involved. One or two clubs are interested in Robert, for instance, and I believe he has been made an offer by one of them. How far that will go I don’t know but we want him to stay. However, if any of these players decide to move on we just have to be ready to find a replacement in their position.”

Scotland Under-20 World Cup squad member Brian Gilmour, also offered a deal, is in a slightly different situation as the Clyde Manager explained:-

“I’ve made contact with Brian since he returned from Canada but I appreciate entirely that he hasn’t had a holiday yet. We’ve given him some time to gather his thoughts and talk things through with his people. Before anything else can happen now I just have to wait on him coming back to me but I’m sure he will as all the discussions we’ve had have been very amicable.”

Colin concluded his update to supporters by confirming today’s media reports about a potential candidate for the Player-Assistant Manager position:-

“We spoke to James Grady today. He’s going to consider the offer and have a think. Hopefully he will come back to us with positive news soon.”
