Youth Get Set

“The 28th June is the night the Youth Development youngsters will re-sign for the new season and hopefully very soon we will also be appointing a new Head of Youth Development.” It might be the close season but Clyde Director John Ruddy, who has responsibility for the Youth Development scheme at Broadwood, has had a busy time and he spoke to this evening.

John immediately confirmed the progress being made in appointing a successor to Alan Upton: “Interviews are underway for the position of Head of Youth Development at the Club and we are hopeful of making an announcement in the near future.

“As far as the youngsters are concerned it is business as usual. We spoke to a number of boys towards the end of last season and next Thursday evening (28th June) at 7.30pm, the lads will be coming down to the stadium to sign up for the new season.

“The arrival of Colin Hendry promises to start an exciting time for the club. Colin was impressed by the success of the Youth Development programme to date and if possible he will try and attend the meeting. Regardless, Colin is looking forward to supporting the growth of our Youth Development programme in the future.

“Two extra teams are being planned for next season and there can be no greater incentive for the boys than to see one of their peers, Ruari MacLennan (pictured), graduate and earn a three year professional contract with the club – a move finalised hours after Colin arrived at Clyde.

John concluded: “That contract was largely funded by the Supporters’ Trust and is further evidence that the whole club is fully behind this initiative as we try and rear Clyde stars for the future. We are definitely all excited at what the future holds for our talented crop of young players.”
