Success For Community Teams

The Clyde FC School of Football was victorious on two counts today at the Kildrum United Football Festival, held at Condorrat Rugby Club.

The Under-13s had excellent wins against Kildrum United, Kelvin Thistle and Calderbraes before disposing of Garnkirk in the semi-final to set up a final against Airdrie United. Clyde came from a goal behind to level through Jay Ewart. After a goalless extra-time, the game had to be settled by penalties. Goalkeeper Damian O’Hare was the hero for The Bully Wee, saving three of the five penalties, as victory was clinched.

The Clyde FC Cosmos also won the girls title. A draw against Hamilton Accies followed by two wins set them up with a final against Lanarkshire United, who had marginally beaten the girls 2-1 in their first game. The Cosmos took revenge and over-ran the Lanarkshire girls 3-0 with a brace from Lauren Aitchison and one from Emily Reid.

A delighted Head Coach, Peter Smith, said, “I’d like to thank Under-13s coaches Tam Mechan and Robert van Beek and the girls’ coaches Carol Wilson and David Carslaw for the hard work they have put in to achieve this.”

The School of Football is also pleased to announce that Central Cars, Cumbernauld, are continuing their sponsorship of four teams from the Under-8s to Under-12s in 2007/08.
