“It was the news none of us were wanting to hear.” That was Joe Miller’s immediate comment on the news that influential centre back Neil McGregor has been struck by injury.

“Neil injured his knee in training and needed to go and see a specialist. He went for a scan and the news came back that he had some ligament damage and a tear in his cartilage.

“He’ll need to go in for an operation to tidy his knee up and after that it will be rest and recuperation. It is a major blow no doubt about it. He will be a huge loss to the team and on top of the three others going it certainly has been a tough month.”

Neil, who before injury struck signed an extended deal at the club courtesy of the Bully Wee Fund – the fans fund for purchasing players – will certainly be missed and all at the club wish him a full and speedy recovery.
