Queen Of The South Preview
Clyde will have unhappy memories from their last visit to Palmerston Park which saw the Bully Wee crash 4 v 2 in the CIS Cup. So this time Clyde will be looking for revenge and will take confidence after gaining all three point’s last weekend against Ross County. Queens have had a difficult start to the season and will see this as a must win fixture. So it is shaping up to be an excellent match.
A Game To Remember – Broadwood Stadium – 31/12/05
Clyde got an emphatic victory over the Dumfries side though it was Queens who started off the better. The then recently appointed manager Ian McCall was certainly frustrated by the margin of defeat but he met a Clyde side high in confidence and looking forward to a cup tie with Celtic.
After a bright start by the visitors, a woeful back pass to Queen’s keeper Barnard was latched on to by an alert Alex Williams and he slotted the ball home. A goal against the run of play but there were no complaints from the Bully Wee faithful. Clyde started to adapt to the slippery surface and began to push QoS out of the game and the home side doubled the lead through Stephen O’Donnell minutes before half-time. After good build-up play from Tom Brighton and Craig Bryson, the ball landed nicely for O’Donnell who smashed the ball home from 12 yards.
Clyde got their third just after the hour mark when Alex Williams got his second of the afternoon. McGowan received the ball from McKeown who crossed the ball in for Williams to put a looping header over Barnard. After that Clyde were content to close the game down as their minds drifted towards two huge games
