Dougie Imrie Reflects On His Clyde Debut

New signing Dougie Imrie’s debut for Clyde couldn’t have gone much better. Not only did he play for the full ninety minutes but his new team won 5-0!

”Getting a place in the starting eleven was the highlight of the day for me,” Dougie told a local Lanarkshire newspaper over the week-end. “I didn’t expect it at all and thought I would only be a sub at best. I could have scored our first goal. I was only a foot away from the ball before Roddy (Hunter) slotted it in. I had a couple of shots at goal later on and I had a good cross for one of the other boys when we hit the post in the second half.”

The former Lanark United top scorer admitted the pace of the match was ”much quicker” than he had experienced at junior level. ”There was more one touch and two touch stuff compared to the juniors, which is mostly long ball stuff and bad tackles,” he added.

”I was knackered at the end and really glad to hear the referee’s full-time whistle! After the game the manager Graham Roberts said to me: ‘Excellent, what a debut!’

I also spoke later to Lanark United coach Stevie Pillans, who wished me all the best.”
