Some good news for Clyde following the weekend defeat against St Johnstone is that they managed to get through the game without any additional injuries.
Neil McGregor had been suffering from a sore Achilles tendon and Steven Masterton (pictured left) had strained a ligament in his knee but both individuals played through their injuries and are hoping that everything will be alright for next Saturday’s short trip to Airdrie.
Even better news is that Paul McHale (pic home page), who has been out for a number of weeks, played in a friendly last week between the Under-19s and the Under-17s and came through the test well. As a result, he started full training this week and is hoping to return to the squad and be available for selection in the next couple of weeks.
As for Clyde’s promotion prospects Graham Roberts was less content as he spoke to Mike Fuller. “We were obviously hoping that Airdrie might take something from St Mirren at the weekend”, commented Clyde’s Manager, “but the Paisley club is flying at the moment and they are going to take a lot of stopping. I don’t really see how we can catch them up from our current position, and the defeat last Saturday probably did for us in that
Mr.Roberts continued: “The important thing to remember about the rest of the season, therefore, is that we still need to get the team playing together well and on a winning streak and we need to try to achieve as high a position in this league as possible. We have everything to play for as we continue to put together a squad that is capable of making a successful assault on the title”.
“One matter that I am therefore determined to sort out is the number of needless bookings that we seem to be sustaining. McGowan’s (pictured right) booking for dissent against St Johnstone, for example, which puts him one booking away from suspension. McGregor missed the game that we lost against St Mirren because he was sent off the week before. Higgins missed the cup-tie at Rangers because of a suspension as well and so on. We cannot afford to lose players in those circumstances. We need everybody injury-free and available for selection if we are to do well”.
