“We thought our chance had gone,” admitted Manager Graham Roberts, “when Stephen O’Donnell missed his one on one but the work rate never ebbed and sometimes that means you get the lucky breaks.”

“The fact is we never settled for the draw,” Graham emphasised, “we wanted to win and gave ourselves a chance by putting our centre half up front. I think that unnerved them and when Joe put over a quality ball it eventually fell to Stevie who hit a great shot to get the points.”

The Clyde boss continued: “As regards looking to the top spot, all we can do is keep plodding along. We’ve been playing all right in recent weeks and that is now five points that St Mirren have dropped in a week so it proves that the League is not over. I have always said that we will get better after Christmas. We’re coming up to the transfer window and we know who we want to bring in, so we’ll see”

Graham concluded by being dismissive of any distracting influences following the cup draw. “The prospect of the Celtic game had no bearing on this match. Brechin on Boxing Day is far more important. We told the players today that they will have to fight for their places or they might not be involved. People talk about Roy Keane. He might not even be fit to play. What we have to do is concentrate on our league form and the cup game is something we will think about later.”
