Brechin City V Clyde Preview
Clyde boss Graham Roberts has reported no injury problems for Saturday’s match against Brechin City at Glebe Park. The game gives Clyde the chance to avenge their Challenge Cup defeat on 30 July and is one that is being greatly looked forward to after the international break.
“All the lads came back refreshed and raring to go for the game on Saturday,” asserted the Manager. “Tom Brighton returned on Thursday from international duty and showed no ill effects from his travels.”
Since the transfer deadline, Brechin City have strengthened their squad further with the signature today of experienced forward Gerry Britton and the extension of Alex Burns’ contract. As well as Burns, the ex-Clyde camp is completed by Gary Bollan and Craig McEwan, adding a further competitive edge to the game.
The Challenge Cup game starkly demonstrated Clyde’s ability to compete but the Bully Wee were edged out in extra time. Despite scoring twice, the team’s defending was poor on the day as they conceded three goals. That weakness has been something that Messrs. Roberts and Miller have worked upon ever since. The signs since that day have been positive as Clyde’s young squad continue to learn and apply themselves.
The CIS Cup kick-started Clyde’s season and attention may, for some, have already drifted towards Ibrox, but Graham Roberts is determined that the players remain focussed on continuing their unbeaten run.
Last time out the squad showed some signs against Queen of the South of tiredness, understandable after an itinerary that had seen them travel over a 1300 miles in one month. Though some may be worried at the loss of momentum due to the break, the rest possibly came at the right time as it gave the opportunity for the players to regroup. Tomorrow’s game will be the judge as to what school of thought was correct.
