Bully Wee Fans Crowned The Best In Scotland!
A truly spectacular 2004-05 season in the Scottish Supporters League finished with Broadwood Clyde being crowned SSFF League Champions.
It is ten years since Broadwood Clyde were formed and only five since the current management of Chris McGee, Sam Bryant and Paul Heron took over so It seems fitting that they are finally recognized as the best supporters’ team in Scotland.
Broadwood and Clydebank were tied on points after twelve matches but Broadwood’s superior defence and goalscoring exploits made sure they won it by four clear goals.
Credit must go to Robert McNeil who finished top scorer with fifteen goals and earned a trial at Clyde F.C for his exploits. The defence also deserve special mention only conceding twenty-six goals (a club record low).
Cammy Wandrum in goals broke the all-time clean sheet record, reaching twenty-three and Scott McEwan won the coveted Player of the Year Trophy closely followed by his defensive partner Chris Patterson.
McEwan also won the “Hatchet Man” award with some tough tackling in some equally tough games!
Aitken, Scott and McMahon all played their part there too. Andrews proved as versatile as ever with some sterling defensive work and also contributed by scoring the goal of the season away to Linnvale.
In a season as close as this, every save, tackle and goal counts so strikers McGee, Bryant, Wells, Heron, Duncan and Mercer all contributed to the attack at different points as well.
The midfield too played an important role with Horne, Reilly and Gordon McNeil consistently outperforming the opposition. Morrison and Sheilds also played an important role at the start of the season only to succumb to injuries.
Broadwood also had a good cup run last season. Easing through the group stages they were drawn against the Clyde Supporters AFC. The Broadwood Stadium authorities kindly allowed Broadwood to use the Stadium as the venue and both teams ran out on the hallowed turf. In the end, Broadwood Clyde proved to be a bit too strong for their Second Division namesakes.
The Final itself was a closely fought affair with Clydebank the opposition and unfortunately they snatched it 1-0.
Broadwood are currently enjoying pre-season training just now and would like to take this opportunity to thank Clyde F.C. for all their support and encouragement over the last five years.
It is a pleasure and honour to represent Clyde in the Supporters League and win trophies for the Bully Wee fans and we will continue to do so in the future.
