Reid On Cup Of Cheer
As you would expect, Billy Reid was in an upbeat mood as he reflected on our Cup triumph against Falkirk. “I ask my players to give me 100% every week and I think they do that but today they added to their game. They competed for everything, passed the ball well and scored good goals”.
Billy highlighted the difference the new additions to the squad have brought to the Club. “We’ve brought in Graeme Jones and Alex Burns and it’s given us a wee bit more cutting edge up front. I think that showed today. The guys at the back have also worked hard, defended properly and kept a clean sheet again. It’s very pleasing and I couldn’t single out any of my players. I thought every one of them gave everything”.
A significant moment happened in the first half when Falkirk had a goal disallowed. “I think the whistle had certainly gone before the ball hit our net. When you get a wee break like that you think it might be your day. The turning point was probably the double save that Halliwell made at 1-0 and then the free-kick just after by Gary Bollan. From 35-40 yards I said to myself ‘he’s not going to hit that from there’ and the next minute the ball is in the net.”
The icing on the cake
Billy continued:”We’ve been looking for someone to lead the line with Ian Harty and I think Graeme Jones is certainly doing that. They had a few chances overall but Bryn Halliwell has once again shown what type of goalkeeper he is. He’s been absolutely fantastic this season and he’s part of a defence that doesn’t leak goals which always gives you a chance of winning games. But as I said, I don’t want to single anyone out as it’s a team game and we’re in this as a team”.
Billy’s views on tonight’s cup draw will be on the site tomorrow.
