Happy Chappy!

After the Clyde victory over Airdrie United, Billy Reid was happy man and took time out to speak to the website. “I’m delighted with the three points, although I don’t think we played particularly well. I think it showed that we hadn’t played for a couple of weeks and it probably went against us. I’m sure Airdrie United will say that they’ve played three games in seven days but we were rusty”.

“We maybe only performed for sixty minutes,” admitted an honest-as-ever Billy, “but once again we kept a clean sheet and my players dug in and that’s what it’s all about.

Thje Manager also spoke specifically about the goalscorer Graeme Jones. “I’m delighted that Graeme managed to get a debut goal. I thought he led the line well at times despite not getting a lot of service. You can see he is clever. We’ve been trying to bring him here for a while and now that I’ve done that he’s repaid me with a smashing goal”.

Despite the three points and crucial victory, Billy was keeping his feet on the ground. “There’s a long way to go and I’m not going to say that we’ll go and catch Falkirk. We’ll take it a game at a time. We’re looking forward to the cup game against them next week”.

Finally Billy spoke about why he changed the system from the tried and tested formation of 4-4-2. “Airdrie are a good side and one of the better ones in the league just now, especially going forward, and they can hurt teams. We went 3-5-2 to try and crowd the middle of the park and defensively I felt we were very strong”.

“The most important thing is winning,” Billy reiterated, “and we got a wee bit of luck today which I don’t think we’ve been getting in recent weeks”.

All eyes will now turn to the Scottish Cup tie against Falkirk and the website will keep you updated with up-to-the-minute news throughout the week. Starting tomorrow with Billy’s views about the squad and the latest on Craig Bryson who had to retire early from Saturday’s match because of injury. Will he make the game?
